Carpet and upholstery soiling characteristics are very different because of their construction and usage, however their cleaning methods are similar. Carpet construction gives it a vertical depth in the pile allowing soil to enter without becoming visible. Over time the soil must build up in layers before it can become visibly noticeable. Upholstery fabric, by comparison, does not have the depth that carpet pile has, and for that reason soiling shows much quicker.
Furniture is subjected to a different set of soiling conditions than carpeting. Areas that come in contact with animals or the human body will often show a build up of soils and oils more quickly. This can begin to cause discoloration in a short period of time and can develop into a non-restorable condition if it is left untreated. To keep your furniture clean, it’s necessary to conduct routine maintenance, including periodic cleaning by a certified technician every 12 to 24 months.

Step 1: Assessment
The first step is to check the condition of your upholstery. Upholstery cleaning can be more difficult than carpet cleaning because of the different types of materials, finishes, and construction being used to produce the material. We will determine and identify any pre-existing conditions which could potentially affect the cleaning process. We then test the dyes for colourfastness and identify the face and foundation fibres to determine the most appropriate cleaning method.
Step 2: Dusting
The next step is the most important part of the cleaning process: commercial vacuuming to sweep up all particulates like dust, crumbs etc.
Step 3: Washing
Most upholstery can be safely, and effectively cleaned, by steam or extraction cleaning. Some fabrics are susceptible to colour migration or are too delicate for extraction cleaning. These fabrics have to be cleaned by “dry” or “low moisture” cleaning methods.
Step 4: Drying
